Not all gifts of the Holy Spirit are sign gifts. Although it seems reasonable to conclude, that the fact God is directly revealing to an individual or group of people His supernatural presence, is to some degree an intended sign or message. One of the gifts of God in both the Old and New Testaments is that of a prophet. One biblical reason that the office or anointing of a prophet can be considered a supernatural sign gift is because God has given exact fulfillment of a prophecy as a sign that God has truly spoken through that particular prophet. (Deuteronomy 18:21-22; Jeremiah 28:9 – AV). This biblical test and certification that constitutes a true prophet of God has a universal application. “To the Law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, there is no light in them.” (Isaiah 8:20). 3 A good example that reveals the link between both the Old and New Testament manifestation of a sign gift in operation is found in Acts chapter 2 and Isaiah 28:11-12. Acts chapter 2 reveals the believers receiving the promised Baptism in the Holy Spirit, with the supernatural manifestation of speaking in tongues/languages in
