The Alchemist is a fiction novel by one of the best-selling and most influential authors all over the world, Paulo Coelho. It talks about Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, who frequently dreamed about finding a treasure in the base of the Egyptian Pyramids. Santiago is a smart boy who was studying at the seminary to be a priest, but that was his father’s plan for him. In fact, Santiago wanted to be a shepherd because he values freedom a lot; he wanted to wander and discover. Second: He was robbed; a Spanish guy who deceived Santiago and managed to run away with all his money. Then, Santiago comes across a Crystal shop, and the owner of the shop gives Santiago a job so he can collect some money to go back to Spain, buy sheep and go back to where he started. He works there for a whole year, and the owner helps him with so many advices. After he collects money, he is reluctant, shall he go back or go to Egypt and search for the treasure? He asks the stones the king had given him, and they tell him to keep going. He rides a caravan to Egypt, and in the caravan, he meets an English man coming from Africa to meet an old Alchemist who turns any metal into gold, and is thought to be +200 years old. When Santiago arrives to the oasis, he meets Fatima and falls in love with her. He even thinks Fatima is his treasure and decides to stay with her, but she insists that he continues searching for the treasure, telling him that true love is never an obstacle in the way to achieving dreams. Santiago has a vision of a future war, so he tells the men of the oasis, they tell him that if his vision is true, they’ll reward him with gold, if not, he’ll be killed, but Santiago’s vision was true.
