The character’s primary objective is to pull down the killer who is so determined to see the end of the shadow shaper generation. Through her actions, the community accepts her as its hero. The reason as to why the community has accorded Sierra this trait is because through her actions she will save the future generation of the shadow shaper painters. Other active characters in the novel, though are not well-developed includes, Juan who the author describes as a guitarist at the salsa-thresh band, Robbie, and Older. As the story continues Bennie, a friend to Sierra is also introduced to the reader. Bennie primary role is to assist the major character Sierra to raise the theme of supernatural powers. As Sierra went about visiting Bennie, she is attacked by the ghostly creatures along the street. Revelations from the story indicate that the killer believes that Sierra as the head of the artists is hiding something from them. Thus the main struggle that Sierra is being faced with is to expose individual’s family secrets, eradicate the killer thus saving the family from future threats.
