City Dwellings

This weeks Discussion forum is very interesting, at least in my opinion. I personally love architecture, especially Greek and Roman architecture. if that was not obvious from last week's discussion forum. I will start with the dwellings inside of the city.

The first and the simplest of dwellings would have to be the Atrium. It also was the earliest of Romes dwellings. An Atrium was a house with a single room that made up the entirety of the dwelling.

It appeared to be two to three rooms large and had sloped roof going down both sides forming an A frame of sorts. And I would assume though it was not stated that there was probably also basins for catching water since they would need as much as possible because they would also have crops and animals to water.

The other form of dwelling that I could find outside of the cities of Rome is the Villa Urbana. Which was a luxury farmhouse it would have been owned by someone that was more upper class but did not live in the city. It makes me think of the old Mexican or Texas ranch houses that where owned by well of families.

There was attention to finer things in this type of house there may have been mosaics, widow paintings, maybe even columns that where there simply to look good. Basically thinking as big as possible and as gaudy as possible.

Final thoughts
From what I can see people outside of the city usually had better larger dwellings. But they also had more wealth it would seam than the average person. At the end of the day though it would seam despite the fact it was very congested most people enjoyed to live inside of the cities most likely for safety
