Personal identity is the individual traits or characteristics that define the uniqueness of each person (Traiger, 12). Everyone has a self identity or personal identity. Our personal identity includes those roles, attributes, behaviors, and associations that we consider most important about ourselves (Ylvisaker). In other words, the personal identity can be race (e.g., white or black), occupations (e.g., teacher, doctor or police), gender (e.g., male or female), ability status (e.g., temporarily abled or disabled), attributes/characteristics (e.g., talkative, lazy or dishonest) or spirituality/religion (e.g., Jew, Catholic or Buddist) etc.
