Being a good leader is hard to explain, but the characteristics are easy to find in people everywhere. Nelson Mandela and Napoleon Bonaparte grew up very differently, but eventually got to the same place as leaders of different countries. When comparing two totally different people like Napoleon Bonaparte and Nelson Mandela, it’s easy to see that Nelson Mandela was the better leader. Nelson Mandela was born in Mvezo, Transkei on July 18, 1918. He attended primary school in the city Qunu where he was given his Christian name, Nelson. He then continued his education to Clarkebury boarding school and completed his junior certificate. He always put the people first and he really looked at issues from their perspective. During Nelson Mandela’s rule he made many foundations to help the people, and one is known as the Nelson Mandela Foundation. This foundation focuses on many global topics. This includes building schools, research about a cure for HIV/AIDS, research into providing education in rural areas, and even peace and reconciliation interventions. The foundation also promotes social justice for all, freedom, and equality, which Mandela really focused on while he was president. (Nelson Mandela.org). Another one of his foundations is the Nelson Mandela Children’s Foundation. This foundation is targeted at children, youth, and families living in unsafe and vulnerable situations. It helps with problems like poverty, disease, food, insecurity, etc. This foundation provides and helps a lot for the children and their families in South Africa. (C.F). Nelson Mandela really showed his people that he wanted the best for them during and after his presidential rule. He really wanted to make a difference for the people. Napoleon would rarely be selfless, but he would usually be selfish. Unlike Nelson Mandela who wanted to connect countries and bring peace to all, Napoleon only cared about getting himself and his country ahead. Napoleon created the Continental System. This was a system that prevented all trade and communication between Great Britain. He did this because Great Britain was France’s biggest enemy and he wanted to make their economy weak. (Book). Napoleon wanted to get ahead and be the best. Nelson Mandela would’ve never done that to the country or it’s people. This shows how Nelson Mandela cared about his people and how selfless he was.
