Where do they look to for guidance on how to continue proving their manhood? It’s was originally associated with physical aspects, but has increasingly transformed into a mentality. Many industries promote this mentality by convincing men that their products will increase their masculinity, specifically the daring and adventurous aspects of it. For example, the Marlboro Man; the modern renaissance man otherwise known as the cowboy, which is iconic for independence and capability in the wilderness. Another example is the advertisements for Axe Body Spray, which shows a male wearing the cologne; surrounded by females and confused because the females seem intrigued by him; and thus, the male is tackled by women who ‘desire’ his odor. These images sell for males desperately seeking guidance on how to ‘prove’ themselves. This type of advertisement, I believe, is minor in comparison to the entertainment industry; which is the main culprit behind instilling new standards for manliness, otherwise known as toxic …show more content…
Toxic masculinity victimizes all Americans; therefore the discouragement of the constant desire for sex and violence must be initiated. As our environment becomes decreasingly less dependent of manual action, we must gear males away from exaggerating a masculine mentality and encourage healthier practices of instilling manhood. We must spread awareness and be as involved in promoting the idea that feeling is accepted in the male
