What do you think of when someone says the word heroism? A hero is someone who has immense amounts of courage, intelligence, and strong will power. There are many more characteristics of a hero such as, being a respected and good leader. Also, they have to be able to think of other people over themselves. A hero is not someone who can fly, see through walls or has some incredible super power. A hero is someone who stands up for something they believe in and fights for it to better someone else’s life, often times putting their own life at risk. Heroes are not people that have the ability to fly, turn invisible, read someone’s mind or has super strength. A hero doesn’t go around the world fighting evil monsters and super villains. Heroes rise up to challenge these immoralities and it gives people something or someone to believe in. Society needs heroes to balance out the extreme evil in the world. There is a video of a bully beating a blind kid and a hero comes through and knocks the bully away to protect the blind kid. This video blew up and went viral because it showed that the heroism of the boy and inspired people to act in the same way. The word hero comes from the Greek word hērōs, which literally translates to protector or defender. The original meaning has changed very little if at all. People today still think of a hero as someone that protects or defends other people. Although, the word hero has gained further meaning as someone who does a selfless, kind act without personal gain or self-thought. The word also has origins in fourteenth century France coming from the French word of heroe, which means demigod or illustrious man. A hero is a person who changes another person’s life for the good. They don’t have to have super powers or kill monsters to be considered a hero. A person only has to have courage, honesty and bravery to be selfless in accomplishing their goal to better the lively hood of others to be a hero. Heroes are an inspiration and should be looked
