There were no similarities between Ramirez victims as they were random and had no real connection with regards to age, race or gender. There is a need to delve deeper into the minds of a serial killer in order to make some kind of understanding of why a certain person decides to kill and what his or her motivations are. In his book titled “Hunting Serial Predators”, G. Goodwin describes Jesse’s types of murderer typologies that a “Sex killer, is a type of murderer that is most likely to display acts, such as cannibalism, postmortem sexual activity, and mutilation.” (p. 4) The motives of serial killers are not easy to distinguish as Goodwin further states “researchers began merging sociogenic, biogenic and psychogenic explanations of crimes with theories of aggression to distinguish between an offender’s level of aggression.” (p. 5) This could explain Ramirez’ motives in regards to aggression that he may have been feeling but does not provide a deeper understanding of why he chose the victims he did and his underlying reasons. Ramirez continued to display arrogance and vented his anger towards law officials after his capture, so it seems that his mental state was not normal.
