Meredith Grey's Anatomy Character Analysis

Meredith Grey once said, “‘Adapt or die.’ As many times as we’ve heard it, the lesson doesn’t get easier. Problem is, we’re human. We want more than just to survive. We want love. We want success. So we fight...to get those things. Anything else feels like death” (Season 7, Episode 21 “I Will Survive”). This is merely one quote from Meredith Grey―title character and series protagonist of Grey’s Anatomy―that depicts her hero-like qualities. The medical drama television series follows interns and residents as they become seasoned surgeons, through both their professional and personal lives. The show focuses on Meredith, who is the head of surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital―formerly known as Seattle Grace. Meredith Grey certainly exemplifies …show more content…
In the face of fear, she does not hesitate or withdraw. One occasion at which Meredith shows this characteristic is in Episode 2, Season 16: “It’s the End of the World.” There is a bomb in a patient’s body that has not yet exploded. Just as the paramedic holding the bomb in place panics and runs out of the operating room, Meredith puts her hand inside the patient to prevent the bomb from exploding. Meredith lives, but the head of the bomb squad is killed by the explosion. Another time Meredith shows courage in difficult circumstances is in Season 3, Episode 16: “Drowning on Dry Land.” A ferry boat crashes, and while she is taking care of injured people at the scene, she is accidentally knocked into the water. She stops swimming and sinks until Derek rescues her from the water; however, she is almost dead by this point and is “fighting” for her life while she is an in-between state of life and death. She is almost pronounced dead, but her best friend and fellow doctor gives Meredith one more dose of resuscitating drugs, and Meredith begins to breathe again. Finally, another exemplary situation in which Meredith shows the courage of a hero is in Season 6, Episode 24: “Death and All His Friends.” A widower goes to the Seattle Grace to kill his late wife’s doctors. The man shoots Derek, and Christina works to save his life. In the meantime, Meredith tells the man to shoot her instead of the others. Meredith shows her heroism by courage through each of these

“The best index of a person’s character is how he treats people who can’t do him any good, and how he treats people who can’t fight back.” I consider this quote by Abigail VanBuren to be very true. What it means is that we can determine someone’s character based on how they treat others. People who will only do good for someone who would return the favor have bad character. Someone like this would take advantage of others to get to where they want to go in life, only having shallow relationships with others and not bothering to hold a genuine friendship.…

Many other interactions between nurses and doctors indicated the tensions beginning to rise in the workplace. Furthermore, the chief of surgery’s assistant and former nurse, Patricia portrayed by Robin Pearson Rose, complained to doctors of the hospital that the reason she quit being a nurse was because “doctors don’t know how to pitch in” (3:00 - 3:30). She exhibited her frustration with the doctors after hearing them complain about their workload. As a former nurse, Patricia spoke on behalf of the current hospital’s nurses and told the chief of surgery, Dr. Richard Weber portrayed by James Pickens Jr., that the nurses of Seattle Grace Hospital would be going on strike the next day.…

The Anatomist: A True Story of Gray's Anatomy When I started reading “The Anatomist: A True Story of Gray's Anatomy” I didn't find it interesting, I don't know if it was because it was a book about another book or because I thought it was going to be like Gray's Anatomy the show but it wasn't. The bibliography was the other thing I noticed, I always knew that you needed sources to make a good book, but Bill Hayes had eight pages of sources!…
