In the short story, “The Parsley Garden” by William Saroyan is about an eleven year old boy named Al Condraj who is a turkish immigrant and lives in Fresno with his single mother. During the story Al Condraj experiences conflict with himself. The problem Al experiences is desiring a hammer that isn’t his and has no money to pay for. He later tries to steal the hammer but does not succeed. Al gets caught by a store worker and was taken to the store manager. The store manager makes Al promise to never steal from the store again and tells him to run off. He despises the worker from the store who caught him and the manager who lectured him. Al Condraj is a round character because he undergoes a huge development throughout the whole story, he
