The Character Code is a “self-help” book that organizes and defines the characteristic of four basic personality types by assigning them a color. The book provides a personality profile and multiple ideas and examples to help you identify your distinctive personality. The author says that “recognizing our strengths and limitations humbles us and invites us to courageously stretch to embrace the innate gifts other personalities bring to them to complete us.” The book begins with the basic wants, needs, and motives of each color. A “red” color personality’s motive is power. In layman’s terms, they want their way. They are manipulative and tend to take great lengths to get what they want. Given a reason to work, they get the job done. They are also very stubborn, and will refuse to be forced into anything that doesn’t interest them. It is important to them to appear knowledgeable. They seek approval from others for their insight and intellect. Respect is more of a priority than love is to a red personality. They are also unmoved by a person’s tears or display of weakness. It is best to get straight to the point with them.A “blue” color personality’s motive is intimacy. Unlike a red personality type, a blue personality’s priority is to be loved. They would sacrifice most anything to heal or improve an important relationship. They tend to help others before they help themselves. They present manners and social graces in public; an example would be holding doors open for people. The gift of nurturing is a true blue personality trait. They like knowing that when they speak, others are listening. They enjoy being understood and appreciated. Because of this, they are notorious for oversharing.
