According to the journal article End Sex-Trafficking in Canada, $14.5 billion is spent within the prostitution industry while $23 million is spent annually on enforcing prostitution laws (“Ending Sex-Trafficking,” n.d). If the government taxed these service in exchange for protection, the profit would be substantial. Not to mention, the government could redirect the attention of police officers to other crimes and lessen the number of people in custody in relation to prostitution. I think having high stakes card games in our own homes should remain illegal for the simple facts as stated above. It is dangerous as illegal items are being traded (drugs, stolen goods, etc.) and have the potential for leading to human trafficking (“Ending Sex-Trafficking,” n.d). In addition, it continues to enable gambling addicts to carry out their addiction and lessen them to see and face their problem because it gives them alternative places to gamble. Overall, I think what the government has implemented for laws pertaining to gambling is fair and for the greater good, however I think there should be more resources for addicted gamblers, and more officers dedicated to the illegal gambling
