The Goolsby Chapel is located in Denton, TX at the University of North Texas. The chapel is a generous gift of UNT alum Tony Goolsby. The chapel is a non-denominational place of worship, reflection and peace that is open to everyone without exception. The chapel was dedicated in September of 2001. It is not as prestigious as the Chartres Cathedral, but it definitely exhibits the ideas and beliefs of Modern Americans.The chapel was planned to accommodate as many as 142 people. To begin, as every churches in America, the chapel is primarily a place of worship. It is a place to communicate with God. However, it also has other purposes. Modern Americans believe that churches should not only be a place of worship, but a place for people to unload their burden and their worries, place for people to rejoice together, to have fellowship because God likes it when people dwell in peace and together. The windows are painted in beautiful bright colors. The chapel has more wide space than long space. Compared to the Chartres Cathedral, the Goolsby does not occupy as much as space as the Chartres Cathedral. The chapel is small in scale and proportions relative to its surrounding building, Crumley Hall to the left of the chapel is a three or four story building that house hundreds of students, and Maple hall in the right is a three-story building that also house hundreds of students. The aisles in the round sanctuary are symmetrical and balanced, they are identical with the same length and size. The red curtain, and the pulpit bring emphasis to the altar, in front of the sanctuary which is where people usually go kneel to pray or worship. The round shape of the sanctuary allow people to move in the space without bumping into each other. It also makes the position of the chairs balanced and
