Othello paper The story of Othello is set in the 16th-century in Venice and Cyprus. Othello a noble black general in the Venetian army, has secretly married a white woman called Desdemona, the daughter of a well-known senator. When he finds out, he is outraged, and accuses Othello of being a witch for a women such as her could not be in love with a black man. Not only does he get grief from her father, but is secretly being plotted against by Lago and Roderigo. Lago is upset because Othello promoted Cassio instead of Lago and Lago thinks Othello had relations with his wife.

He started off very charismatic, trusting, noble and confident and transforms into a foul-minded, irrational and murderous husband. The change is mainly seen towards Desdemona. He begins the play loving and caring to beating her, calling her whore, and murdering her in jealous rage. Even Othello’s speech changes, at the beginning of the play, Othello would speak to others in respect. He showed a peaceful personality that Othello acts with at the beginning of the play. He also has confidence and trust in his men and respects the people around him, he called Desdemona by “my dear love”. But that changes quickly, Othello gives in to his own jealous beliefs that Iago puts in his mind he soon resents his wife and his second in command. A change in Othello's personality happens when he becomes irrational and mean. Othello’s use of words reveals change when he tells his wife that “She is a whore” and “Let her rot and perish and be damned tonight, for she shall not live”. By using unsettling language and describing Desdemona as a ‘whore’ and letting her ‘rot and perish’ shows Othello’s irrational personality. He quickly made the decision to kill his wife without understanding thinking it
