The Change In Odysseus In Homer's Odyssey

All of the encounters that I have describe in my essay are some of the event that made Odysseus change. After, the encounter with the Kyklops, Odysseus went from island to island for many years encountering many dangerous situations, which eventually cast all of his man lives. All those year allowed Odysseus to change the way he is, to become more patient, cautious, and a person who planned before doing something. This extreme change was shown, when Odysseus was finally able to get home to Ithika. Instead of immediately going home to his palace and wife, he disguise as a beggar. One of the only persons he revels himself to was Telemachus, his son and start plotting a plan against all of Penelope’s suitors. Odysseus was constantly being taunt by the suitors especially Malathions, “Not even jogged off stride, or off the trail, the Lord Odysseus walked along, debating inwardly whether to whirl and beat the life out of him on the stony ground. Then he controlled himself, and bore it quietly” (Ch. 17, Lines 299-304). This showed how much Odysseus had changed, by not reacting aggressively or defiant like he did in the athletic games in Phaiakians. However, in some cases like Odysseus, going through the outcomes might have a great impact to the person and change them for the better. Odysseus odyssey changed him from a prideful, impulsive, egotistical man to a patient and cautious person, who shows mercy to people that dare to challenge him.
