Sommers, one of the challenges that adolescents might face specially girls as they transition to adulthood is the pregnancy at an early age. Mr. Sommers mentions on the video that having a child is very important for many girls. Many girls believe that having a baby at an early age demonstrated that they are already adults (Laureate Education, 2011). Adolescents have to know that having babies at an early age will give them more responsibilities that they are not prepared to deal with. The programs that have worked to ease this problem are Teen Parent Demonstration, Ohio Earning, learning and Parenting program, Teen Parent Demonstration, New Chance and JOBSTART (Hadley, Mbwana and Hair, 2010). Another important challenge that adolescents might face as they transition to adulthood is that they have to demonstrate they have grown as person. Many students have to stop depending on their parents and be self-sufficient, responsible for themselves at the time of make independent decisions. This situation has increased the unemployment rate. As a result many adolescents are straggling to find job. According to the article “ Help not wanted” 9.7 percent of the workforce is unemployed and from teen people looking for a job only one person can find a job. The unemployment rate among adolescents was three times higher than the rate of all workers. There are some teens that have being looking for a job for more that a year without luck (McLaughlin, 2010). Another trend in unemployment among adolescents is that because of the scarcity of jobs, many adolescents are force to fight for the same jobs. More over, adolescents have to compete with adults for jobs. Many employers prefer to hire adults instead of adolescents because adults are more experienced and they accept lower paying jobs. Also adults are more reliable and they are better in costumer service. Adults are entering to the field of jobs that were mostly occupied by adolescents. The two potential long-term consequences among adolescents are that without job experience, adolescents are not able to develop work experience and special skills that might help them to find what they are good at and the career they might be successful in. More over, if adolescents do not have a job, they won’t be able to learn how to manage money. Jobs help adolescents to develop money manage skills because they have to learn how to
