Odysseus and his remaining men landed on the island inhabited by the cattle of Lord Helios and there he gave specific orders for his men not to kill the cattle. When a gale keeps Odysseus and his men on shore Eurylochus says “Comrades, you’ve gone through everything; listen to what I say. All deaths are hateful to us, mortal wretches, but famine is the most pitiful, the worst end that a man can come to” (pg 981). This quote from the Odyssey shows that if men want something enough they will get it no matter what the cost. Odysseus later states in his account of the Odyssey that He “had [not] yet seen the worst of it” (pg 985). The event that Odysseus spoke of in his quote was the complete wreckage of his ship, which happened when zeus threw a lightning bolt at it to punish his men for eating the cattle. This was Odysseus’ most sorrowful adventure because he lost all of his men, but a lesson can be learned from it, that lesson is that greed is never good it can overrun man’s soul and is given into very easily. This was Odysseus’ final adventure before he returned home where he would learn more lessons
