Personal Narrative: Simply Owning My Own Business

Ever since my sisters and I started a song and dance show when we were kids, I have thought about someday owning my own business. While most of my 9 year-old friends talked of being teachers or astronauts, I was trying to decide if my sisters and I should own our own construction company, or should we start a school of arts for children and teach them to sing and dance. As I matured to the independent age of 14, the tough decision was more whether I would start one of these businesses with my sisters, or go off and start one on my own. As foreign as it sounds that a Native American girl would be thinking of someday being an entrepreneur, witnessing my mother succeed as the President and CEO of her own construction company allowed me to see business ownership as a perfectly viable option for someone just like me. Now that I have completed my AA in Business, I am ready to face the challenges of moving on to a school such as the University of Washington that excels in business, so that I can grow as a student in a dynamic community. …show more content…
I kept the creativity she had brought to the show, but I also assigned jobs to each of my younger sisters, such as scheduling and money management, and polished up details to make the show more tidy and structured. Thanks to her start, and my mom’s encouragement I was able to bring more organization to our singing group and carry on with a business plan that I had ownership of and was passionate about.
My mom’s passion for business and family has empowered me to become the person I am today and I hope to continue to carry her passion to everything I do. Whether it be through creativity or organization, I am confident that I can carry on what I have learned from her, while still bringing all of my own passion and ideas to the University of
