Compare And Contrast High School Versus College

Anyone who has graduated high school and gone straight into college knows that both high school and college require hard work and dedication. Even though high school is mandatory and going to college is a choice, each one offers its own set of challenges that students must overcome in order to succeed. Both high school and college are expensive, time consuming, and stressful. High school and college can both be quite expensive. Even though high school may seem far cheaper than college at face value, many students who take advanced placement classes or play sports may end up paying as much to go to high school as they would pay to go to a local community college. High school students usually find school to be time-consuming because attendance is required. Students in high school do not have the flexibility of choosing when they want their classes. This means that students must plan things around the required school schedule. Students also have more homework in high school. High school teachers require students to do extra work outside of class so that students can understand the material without the teacher’s guidance. The homework given in high school may be done partially at school, but many times students have homework in multiple subjects. Many students may also ride the bus, meaning that they may spend up to two hours getting to and from school each day. The long bus ride and massive amount of homework can cut into family time at home. College students also believe that school is time-consuming, but the majority of their work is done outside of class. College students rarely get guided work. They go to lectures where they take notes to study from. Studying is where college is very time-consuming. Most students have to study much more in college than they did in high school. Finding time to study can create time-management issues. Many students who live far from campus may spend a ridiculous amount of time travelling to and from school each day. Many high school students face stress due to the pressure from parents to get good grades. Students often worry about applying and choosing a college as well. Since many classes in high school consist of guided classwork, students may be required to have an assignment finished by the end of a class period which may cause the student stress.
