Stress is more prone in college than it is for any other type of schooling. It can interact with people’s emotions, weight, and even grades. A lot of times, students feel the pressure to perform a certain way from family members, peers, society, and professors. The author states that, “One potential source of stress that has been considered is the unrealistic or unrealized expectations of first year college students… that the transition to college is more than an academic experience and that expectations of other factors, specifically the social environment, contribute to overall stress” (Kreig 635 & 642). First year college students try to keep up with their grades, a job and create friends all at once. If the students were required to take a course that helped them be successful, the students would learn how to control their stress levels and how to relieve the stress before it occurs. The course would help them get in the habit of using a planner as well as good planner using skills. Students who take remedial classes seems to be more adequate in their works and more prepared for college level classes than those who are thrown into college classes from the start. The students are having to be responsible for themselves and their school work as well as learning how to study alone if they didn’t in high school. A class like SFA 101 and any remedial classes would be beneficial for them. The class would give mediation, and would help lower the stress levels and get the students situated in a new home easier. The class would prepare them for higher level classes that they will soon be taking as well as teaching them to be responsible for their work. The authors of “Mediation Lowers among Stress and Supports Forgiveness among College Students: A Randomized Controlled Trial,” said that “meditation may lead to neurological changes and foster physiologic health benefits through improved immune function or reduced arousal…” (Omen ET AL 570) Being away from their families for the first time, especially those who did not grow up going to overnight camps may make the student not only have a feeling of being homesick emotionally, but also a feeling of physically being homesick. If students used the counseling services, and the resources around campus to help them get accustomed to being away, and to help them recover from both sicknesses, it would make their first semester at their school go by smoother. If the students had to take a class that told the students where all the helpful resources
