Dewey Decimal System: A Conceptual Analysis

There are a myriad of reasons for the vast diversity in the ages of students attending college. The advantages of attending school with younger students are they are tech savvy savants, they see the world from a different perspective and were born in the internet era which effects how they connect with other people and the world around them in a manner that is quite different from what I have previously experienced. Many younger students have no idea what a card catalog or the Dewey Decimal System is but have advanced skills such as the ability to code, make web pages and do graphic design which is an advantage to them because they were born into the internet age. While I was in high school I found the age related antics often found in high school classrooms bothersome. Another advantage I find in the higher education culture is the higher education classes are academically structured for automated learning and the assignments are conducive to self driven learning, the teaching modes are direct in their methodology and approach and well tailored to analytical thinking. The disadvantages I find in my present higher education culture are with age comes higher expectations, more accountability and a need for strict levels of personal responsibility because there are no parents to monitor what you are doing with your time. Age thankfully is a process of accretion, you learn as you grow and grow as you learn. I realize in college the professors are not going to repetitively adumbrate what you need to do and why. Time management also becomes your own responsibility. The higher education culture requires you prioritize your life, schedule and study habits without the need for oversight unless you are dual enrolled and still have parents to ground you if you grades are not what they should be. Regardless of the age of the student there is a requisite to have the ability to synthesize what is being taught and be accountable for your own
