Freedom can be seen throughout collection 2 of our textbook. The idea of freedom can be found in the “I Have a Dream speech” by Martin Luther King Jr. The idea of freedom is also found in “from Cairo: My City, Our Revolution” by Ahdaf Soueif. Another selection that the idea of freedom can be found in is “The Censors” by Luisa Valenzuela. The idea of freedom can be found in the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr. . Freedom is shown in this speech when Martin Luther talks about equal rights between white and black people. “There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted his citizenship rights”. This shows freedom because, Martin Luther is putting his foot down on the idea of all people, both white and black, having equal rights. Martin Luther’s speech shows freedom again when he talks about white and black children being able to reunited instead of separated. “One day right there in Alabama, little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls …show more content…
Freedom is shown in this short story when the people of Selmeyya fought to take their city back. “We stood. “That was our job, the people at the back we stood and chanted our declaration of peace.” This shows the idea of freedom because, as a woman, she wasn’t able to do anything under her free will. Now protesting and chanting, the main character is able to do and act as she pleases. Freedom is shown again in “from Cairo: My City, Our Revolution” when the protesters sang their national anthem which was banned.” We sang the national anthem. Eight months ago some young protesters from the 6 April Group had been arrested in Alexandria for singing the national anthem; it was ‘instigatory’ the prosecution said.” This shows freedom because by singing their national anthem, they are rebelling against the people who “control” Cairo and slowly take it back
