Reflection Of Student Writing Project 3

Project 3: Write up The Genre I am using to present project 3 at the Celebration of Student Writing is a poster board. I want to use the board as an aid to give a general idea of what I have been researching. Doing this will help me explain most of the project myself and I won’t have to rely on the board for the presentation of the project. For Project 3, I focused my topic on Autism Spectrum Disorder. I aimed to explain what autism is and the effects it has on people diagnosed with it and their family. To make the project more interesting I added the parts of my research that explain how autism effects intelligence. During CSW, I spoke with a few people and they seemed really interested to know more about Autism, so I explained to them …show more content…
To help the audience and myself better understand medical terminology, I had to simplify a lot of terms by finding their different meanings. Autism is actually considered to be Fragile X syndrome. Fragile X syndrome is a disorder where the x chromosome of an unborn child is damaged. Considering most people already know what Autism is, I used that term for the title instead of its root form. This was just one of the few vocabulary changes I had to make to Project 3. The board has a picture of the Autism awareness symbol in the center of the poster to better draw audience’s attention. I also added rainbow patterned puzzle pieces to fill the blank spaces so it doesn’t look dull but still keeps the simple approach. I avoided adding a lot of pictures so the board wasn’t overwhelmingly flashy. On the right hand side, I placed the effects of Autism. On the left hand side, I placed data from articles and summaries of the information to help explain how ASD effects intelligence. I kept this placement order from the original draft to make the board neat and organized. In the final product I had to expand the text so the audience could clearly see the information

In my mind, autism was a disease that prohibited children from experiencing the world and being their own person. Watching this film, I am now aware and fully understand that having autism does not constrain children. Autism is a minor roadblock in children’s life but, in the end they will get to the finish line. That was the motto I acquired for the film because the stereotype I believed about autism made me believe that they were incapable of doing out of the ordinary tasks such as being in a musical. Before watching this film, I had zero knowledge about autism.…

This semester has flown by; however, English 101 has shaped my writing in so many ways. Initially, I did not recognize the ways which rhetoric, technology, research, and collaboration have affected my writing. As I review my work from this semester, it is quite noticeable that my writing has improved a lot since English IV honors. Rhetoric Of all the things I have learned in English 101, rhetoric has continued to be something I use.…

Aside from the valuable next working skills and strong positive representation of Western Kentucky University, I have a treasured memory of the 2015 SACSA conference. I plan on applying the knowledge gained to continue my developmental conversations with residents, peers, and colleagues, specially working with students who have autism. We are fortunate to have the Kelly Autism Program on our campus, but I know of many students who are not in the program that face the same problems as the young man in the example. If I can make a difference for these student then I know I have made the right choice in my…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

Over the course of this semester, this class has reshaped me as both a reader and a writer. It has helped me think more critically about work I read, and to analyze the reading for components of arguments, or to find bias in the piece I am reading. This class has developed my writing style, and has aided me with becoming a stronger writer. I am now able to write persuasively, while recognizing the apposing side’s point of view. Before I started this class I was terrible at writing persuasively, however, now that I have taken this class I have learned plenty of techniques that will help me with further argumentative pieces.…

Upon my entry into English 1010-02, my first college writing class, I expected to breeze through the course with an easy-A and minimal effort after my successful completion of AP English 11 this past year. I began the year with the utmost confidence in my writing abilities, and believed that my skills were above par. It wasn’t until I received my score on the essay evaluation for my First-Week Essay- a measly five out of twenty- that I realized that this was not the case. At first, I was astonished that my seemingly exceptional writing skills had not earned me the A that I believed I deserved. However, as time went on I came to the realization that I had not put in nearly enough time or effort into the paper to receive more than a C at most.…

I believe all of the assignments in the course of the class had importance in building knowledge and understanding of autism spectrum disorders, but, for me, the parent interview assignment was very impactful. Additionally, not only was the assignment very beneficial, but the parent interview assignment also correlated to Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) Standard 1:1, which discusses how the understanding of a student’s language, culture, and family background influences the learning of individuals with special needs. I also believe the interview assignment correlated to the CEC Standard 6, which discusses the roles and responsibilities of special education professionals. I believe it is crucial, and the responsibility for special education…
