It’s the natural thing to do. Generational value gaps continue to influence music and music censorship. Today the focus is largely on gangster rap and sexually explicit hip-hop lyrics. In each case, the music being censored is typically regarded as “the music of youth” and features values different from other age groups. Fear is the leading cause of music censorship (Sparrow). The moral authorities fear that without censorship youth will not be able to grow up to be morally acceptable human beings. As long as censorship exists people are not free. With more censorship comes more violence. Events such as revolt and riots come with government control. At that point it’s the government causing the violence not the music and media. In just a few minutes people can go from angry or sad to happy and upbeat. Different types of music helps us in different ways (Ramsay). Faster more rhythmic music can help us focus and power through a workout or sport we play. On the other hand less fast paste slower and more classical music can help us focus on academic and more artistic activities such as coming up with ideas to go into a paper, thinking of what color to use in a painting. Different music can help people with different things in life. It is a coping tool for people who have had rough times in life. Things like music therapy exist for people who have had strokes. This helps them rebuild and strengthen parts of their mind that was damaged. The same concept is used for inner city youth to keep them out of violent crime activity by occupying there time by teaching them how to play instruments. Depressed people can also seek out relief with music. A drug that is commonly found in depression medicine is dopamine, but our bodies also naturally produce this drug when we listen to music (Ramsay). It is also called the “feel good” drug. Along with helping us focus it leads to better mental health. Less depressed people, more occupied youth, and more focused people do not add up to
