The Causes of the Civil War Like many topics you have two different sides that see an event differently and the Civil War is no different than any other event. You have supporters of the Confederate States of America (those that support the South) and you also have Union supporters(those who support the North). The Confederate supporters don’t see slavery as a primary cause or even a cause of the Civil War and you have Union supporters that support that slavery was the primary and only cause of the Civil War. Confederate supporters cite the reasons for the Civil War as the Lincoln election, States vs. Federal rights, nullification crisis, economic differences, and tariffs. Others, primarily Union supporters, argue that it was caused because of slavery. The differences in these views were economical, social, and political views. I believe that the causes of the civil war were mainly because of social and political views such as Lincoln election, States vs. Federal rights, nullification crisis. These reasons were also economic because of tariffs and economic differences. I believe that the Union won because they were better off economically and had a much larger population. As I stated above Confederate supporters cite that the causes of the Civil War are the Lincoln election, States vs. Federal rights, nullification crisis, economic differences, and tariffs.
