Police brutality is one of the several forms of police misconduct which involves violence enforced by police. Police brutality happens widespread throughout the country. Even though it’s legal it can be formed under the color of law, which many police officer take advantage of. When Philando Castile was shot it brought fore a huge amount of media attention to the state of Minnesota. Multiple people nationwide tuned in to see how the government and people would react to this devastating event.
Since the beginning of 2017 police officers have shot and killed 13 people, this is the most people killed since the state started keeping track 38 years. The previous high was 12 deaths in both 2010 and 2015. Since 1995 police have caused at least 151 deaths, which averages out to about seven per year (Mara). More than half the deaths have been in the last eight years. Each year since 2009 police have caused between seven and 13 fatalities (Tad). The most public shooting in Minnesota was Philando Castile.
Philando Castile was an African American male who was shot and killed by a police officer last year in July. Castile was shot in Falcon Heights, a suburb outside of St.Paul Minnesota. He had been pulled over 52 times before the final one where he lost his life. The reason for him getting pulled over was, because of a broken taillight according to

“The Stolen Lives Scroll” has run out of room. Since 2000, the scroll has kept the names of anyone who has lost their life due to police brutality. It started out being 30 ft. long, but has now run out of room. The scroll will be getting a 15 foot add on to honor anyone whose loses their life to the police (Mara). Over the last year Minnesota has had many different protest against the police. The two protest that have received the most media attention were last summer's State fair protest and the kneeling at the U.S. Banks
