Single parent family as known as lone parent family can be defined as a family where one parent lives with dependent children, without a partner (Encyclopedia, 2003). It shows that there were 2 million lone parents in the United Kingdom in 2014 and it shows an increase from 2004, which was 1.9 million, is referred to by ONS (2015). In addition, 91 percent of women have dependent children while 9 percent of men have dependent children. As a result of divorce, 30 per cent of children lack certain necessary things due to what the parents are going through. This essay will examine the causes of divorce and the effects it has on children.

There are different issues that arise with a family that leads to divorce, which affects children. A valid reason is necessary in order to legally divorce a partner or spouse. The process of getting separated is not easy and some couples encounter troubles whilst at it, such as emotional and financial problems.
