Causes of Alzheimer Disease in Elderly As the life expectancies have risen, the number of elderly has undergone an increase too. According to World Health Organization (2008), the number of people aged 60 years will probably increase by 2025. As the consequence, the increase in Alzheimer disease cases is expected. This will cause a significant medical, social and public concern. Alzheimer disease is the most common form of dementia (memory loss) (World Health Organization, 2006). Patients with Alzheimer disease usually exhibit forgetfulness, which may progress into irreversible loss of memory and other previously well-learned skills. In addition, Alzheimer’s Disease may induce problems with memory, thinking, language, learning capacity and behavior, which may affect persons work, family, social relationships and the most basic daily activities. These symptoms progress at different rates and may end with severe brain damage (Mayeux and Stern, 2012). According to Alzheimer’s Association (2015), as of today Alzheimer Disease is the seventh leading cause of death in the United States, and the fifth leading cause for individuals 65 and older. Additionally, to determine how many people died from Alzheimer disease, the death certificate has to have Alzheimer’s as the underlying cause of death.
