Anxiety And Fear Essay

Anxiety and fear dictate much of Allison’s daily life and routines. Much of the time the anxiety does not have a cause that either of us are aware of.

When sufficiently stressed - such as during a panic attack - Allison’s muscles tense up to the point of causing her pain. In rubbing her neck, shoulders, and back I can feel how tense and knotted up her muscles are.

When suffering from a panic attack or heightened anxiety Allison pours sweat. She often has to change clothing multiple times a day when her clothing gets saturated in sweat.

She also gets light-headed when she experiences sufficient levels of anxiety. When this happens Allison must either sit down or brace herself against something/someone.

She generally doesn’t eat much when

When walking down an unfamiliar street, especially at night, it can be hard to carry on a conversation with her because she focuses so much on making sure that nothing in the nearby is dangerous - despite having trusted friend(s) with her who know the route being taken.

Allison has trouble both getting to sleep and generally wakes up at least every 90 minutes. Allison frequently wakes me up pacing around at night and checking the locks on the doors.

Loud noises provoke Allison’s anxiety. About a week or two ago the noise of me putting pots and pans away sent Allison into a state of heightened anxiety. She went from acting like her normal self to acting angry and verbally aggressive. She seemed disconnected, like the anxious fears had her stuck in a fearful state of mind. When I attempted to apologize and state that I was attempting to clean the kitchen as quietly as possible she lashed out and started shouting at me.

Allison doesn’t handle loud crowded situations well. The last time she attempted to shop for groceries she had a panic attack and had to leave the store without getting all of the items she had went in to

Allison has been working on reading the same book - about 300 pages - since April. Someone of her intelligence could easily read the book in a week or less. When she starts reading an interruption such as a phone ringing or a knock at the door sidetracks her to the point that she often forgets where she was in the book or doesn’t make it back to the book at all.

In times of heightened stress, Allison has expressed feelings of wanting to end her life. The day Allison found out she has emphysema, she told me that she “just wanted to die”. Similar events have transpired at other points in time like when waiting for results of cancer screenings or when Allison does not feel that she has the financial means to pay her bills for the month.

In the past four months Allison has had at least two times where her depression was so bad that she could only manage to get out of bed long enough to have a cup of coffee and go right back to bed.

Physical exertion leaves Allison wheezing and gasping for breath due to emphysema. Early in the morning and later in the evening she wheezes to the extent that I can hear it from several feet away. Allison cannot dust the house at all without it clearly having a negative effect on her breathing. Vacuuming while Allison is in the room also leads to her having respiratory

The most likely cause of Connie’s respiratory alkalosis revealed in her VBG results is that when a patient is hyperventilating i.e. asthma exacerbation which causes an increase in respiratory rate, which results in the blowing off of more carbon dioxide (Larkin & Zimmanck, 2015). This is revealed in Connie’s low reading of 38mmHg for her PvC02, and as CO2 decreases so does the H+ ions in the blood which results in the alkalosis (Larkin & Zimmanck, 2015). The nurse should encourage Connie to undertake deep breathing techniques to reduce her respiratory rate which has caused the respiratory alkalosis and also to reduce anxiety (Dhooria & Agarwal, 2015; Farrell & Dempsey, 2014). The nurse should instruct Connie to breathe deeply, exhale through her nose, then take a short breath and finally cough from deep in her lungs (Farrell & Dempsey, 2014).…

Anxiety is something I have always been accustomed to, and even some of my earliest memories involve that anxious, nerve stricken feeling in the pit of my stomach. I was always the shy kid in the class, something to grow out of once I grew older, except that was not the case at all. Anxiety and I have grown closer over the years, so much so, that I developed several crippling anxiety disorders that shaped my life and how I lived it. It came on during my high school years and it affected my school work, my home life, and just about every instance in between. I would wake up every morning filled with anxiety dreading the day ahead of me, and waiting for it all to be over.…
