Sexual assault is when a person is physically forced, threatened, or intimidated. It consists of oral, anal, or vaginal force against the will of the victim. When a person is being held against their will to have non-consensual sex and forced upon someone is an offence. Forcing someone to have sex is a crime and in every state it is a felony but punishable by law depending on the charges held against the suspect. Most sexual assaults and rape that happen in correctional facilities are caused by correctional staff and/or officers. Correctional administrators reported that 8,7363 alleged sexual assault in prisons, jails, and other adult facilities in 2011 and a great increase since in 2009 (7,855) and 2010 (8,404). Inmates that are sexual assaulted are not the norm because of what they have been through. They are a threat to society and to society this people need some kind of help to control their urge to hurt someone. Postermodernism is perfect to use in this type of topic because it questions the person’s progress in the system and the history of what that person has gone through that no one is aware of but the suspect and victim. A person who has been through this type of incident can be a life threating to other people but also themselves. Punishing them for what they have done but they do not understand what kind of situation they are getting themselves into. Cases like this are something turned down or pushed aside for the sake of the standing of the facility but in reality it should not be hidden to the people. What makes prison guards do this to inmates and what gives them the right to punish this people. They are humans too and that they are serving their time in prison because of their wrong doing. Bureau of Justice Statistics website would be one area I would gather some facts and statistics about sexual assault/rape in correctional facilities. It tells the amount of cases reported and the year it was filed. Male Rape: The ‘Invisible’ Male would be a great place to read and understand what goes around in the prisons and why that male assaults are nothing compared to when a female inmate is assaulted. They are both people too and that they should be given a fair trial and thorough investigation just like any other rape
