“Too often, the subject of child abuse is ignored or spoken of only in whispers” (Check 18). The kinds of abuse in children is endless, for example there is physical, emotional, and neglect. Too many people run away from the topic because of its devastation. Check once said, “Although it does not compare to the pain and horror the children have gone through. The definition of child abuse is “Child abuse occurs if a person who has the care or custody of a child causes or allows the child to suffer any of the following: physical harm such as external or internal bruising, burns, fractures, wounds, brain damage or poisoning”(15). “Words hurt as much as fist”(Check 44). The brain does try to strengthen neural pathways involved with survival but it often fails and develop social and cognitive skills. That is very imperative part of the brain that someone needs later in life. you can control many of our social skills like how a person reacts to kindness and they 're trained but because the brain has no recollection of how to respond to these new experiences.
