Many students will never finish college and some will never start. Statistics have shown “seventy percent of Americans will study at a four-year college, but less than two-thirds will graduate.” (college atlas) Why is this? There is a myriad of reasons not to drop out or fail. So why do we continue to see students not succeed in graduating? In many cases, it is the student liability such as not having the motivation to see it through or not committing with the workload. Although in other circumstances it is not the students doing, in the manner of having other external factors or having economic issues. Granted those who do not complete college, there are still innumerable that will pass and will have accomplished careers.

Being prepared for college means that a high school graduate has the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed in college. The students who failed because of poor study habits were the ones who, in most cases, were okay with making C’s or D’s in a class. Which isn’t just poor work ethic but laziness and lack of effort. Although, I can’t put the entire blame on the students for not bring prepared for college. I have had experience with being in a public school, where it is acceptable to do the bare minimum or less and still acquire a diploma. Not everyone has someone, whether it be a teacher or other mentor, to show them better or show them the goals that they could fulfill.
