The price of gas has gone down for American citizens. Kristy Hartman wrote in an article, “After five years of stability, the price of a barrel of oil has fallen by almost 50 percent, dropping from a high of more than $ 100 in 2014 to a low of $48 in January this year [2015]” (Hartman 28). Now, the Americans are able to purchase more by paying less and contributing to the economy more than they would have a few years ago when America was dependent on foreign oil. This is a win-win situation. This may be so, but research done by Finkel, Marsa, Solotaroff, and many more have proven that fracking does cause catastrophic damage to not only water but earth and humans as well. there are more disadvantages to fracking than advantages. The disadvantages such as air contamination, water pollution, man-made earthquakes, and health risks are more important than the economy. Who is going to support the economy when there are no people around? What will the economy matter then. The people of this world should not accept those disastrous consequences just for cheap oil and an extra amount of currency in their pockets.
