In everyday society and infrastructure, cars and other motor vehicles have a fundamental role in transport. However, being motorised vehicles, crashes can be very severe and can lead to injury and in some cases death when involved in several types of accidents accidents, most notably collisions with other cars or stationary objects. The cause of death can vary, from forces within the car causing damage to internal organs, parts of the body being damaged by colliding with parts of the car, crushing from displacement in the car’s surface, and countless others. By the end of 2015, 1,209 deaths in Australia were the result of road accidents and these accidents cost the government $27 billion per annum. Despite still being a relatively large cause of death, this amount is an approximately 31.8% decrease compared to 1970, where 3,789 people died as a result of a road accident. …show more content…
The causes severe displacement to the surface of the car, other exterior and interior, and can cause permanent damage to both the car and the driver/passengers inside of it. The body of the passengers can be damaged in several ways, most notably is being subject to extreme forces which can cause internal damage to the organs, or cause to body to collide with parts of the car, and in severe crashes, this often results in permanent injury or death.

The severity of the collision depends on the several factors, the main of which being the velocity of the object colliding with the car, and its position relative to the car. A solid stationary wall, for example, made of a material which will absorb the impact, will almost immediately cancel the force exerted by the car. This will effectively stop the car, however, according to Newton’s first law, the inertial force of the car’s acceleration will be exerted on the objects inside of the car, including the passengers of the
