Concussions are serious, but not as serious as they have been made out to be. Football has been blamed for not protecting their athletes and having too many concussions, causing long term problems for players. Situations can occur and result in injury. Concussions are not always preventable no matter the amount of precaution taken. No matter the age of an individual they can still sustain a concussion. Concussions can happen at any place and at any time, and they are more frequent than many people realize.

Football has a lot of concussion due to the physicality of the sport. When the issue was brought to the attention of the community of football major changes occurred to help prevent this injury. Companies who makes football equipment began to revolutionize the helmet. Whoever could make the safest helmet was going to make the most money because parents want their children to be safe. So companies such as riddle, schutt, xenith, etc. proceeded to make all kinds of helmets and they were the most protective helmets ever created for the game of …show more content…
The rules have changed to make less contacts to the head occur which reduces opportunities for concussions to occur. Teams are encouraged to keep a medical professional on the field at all times, so if any injury occurs someone who is trained knows what to do to keep the players safe. Doctors have created a special test to determine if a player is cleared to play. This test is taken at the beginning of the season and if the player is thought to have concussion they will take the test again to see if they are experiencing symptoms. If the player is cleared, they are eased back into practice to be certain they are okay. The number of concussions reported has been lower since these changes have occurred. However, because of how serious concessions are being taken, some kids are afraid to even tell someone they are experiencing symptoms. A football season consists of only so many games and a concussion cause a player to miss at least two weeks.
