In 1950 Walt Disney released the classic film, Cinderella. This is a film that many young girls have fallen in love with, including myself. In this film Cinderella dreams of finding her prince charming and living happily ever after. Cinderella’s dream of finding her prince to marry and living happily ever after is a dream shared by many. On October 11, 2008 my dream was coming true. I had found my prince, the one I planned to spend the rest of my life with. We had our dream wedding with all of our family and friends in attendance. However, little did I know that dream would come crashing down right before my eyes in just one short year.

It is expensive to get a divorce. Individuals have to pay for the filing fees within the court and then the lawyer fees. According to Olup, Linda A (2011), “The cost of a divorce can range from less than $1,000 to more than $1 million.” Aside from the cost of the divorce, suddenly the individuals may have to pay moving fees if they are the one who has to move out of the home. Even if they are not the one moving divorce can set one back financially when they go from a two income household to a single income household. All of a sudden the individuals involved are faced with paying the mortgage, electric, water, home owner’s policy, trash, and many other household expenses on your own. The causes of a failed marriage can be communication issues and loss of interest. Lack of intimacy and affection which can lead to infidelity can also cause a marriage to fail. Theses causes of a failed marriage are ones that caused my marriage to fail. The effects of a failed marriage can affect the person psychologically and financially. The divorce also has effects on the children involved. These effects can be life-long and are effects that I still deal with 6 years later. Marriage can be a daily struggle for couples to maintain. If the couple is willing to put in the effort then they can have a long lasting marriage until death do us part. If the couple is not willing to work on maintaining this commitment then it can end in divorce. Getting married is supposed to be the happiest day of our life. Divorce should be a word that we delete from our vocabulary.
