Everyone at some point in life goes through the feeling of betrayal. When someone feels betrayed, many sense the urge to seek revenge in order to make themselves feel better. A character in the story goes through betrayal and revenge. In the short story, “The Cast of Amontillado” by Edgar Allen Poe, the protagonist creates a devious plan of revenge against his enemy. After Fortunato insults Montresor, Montresor feels the need to take measures into his own hands and get revenge. The short story leads to an account of two friends losing their friendship and a precious life because of one incident. With the use of great characterization by the author, the reader easily sees the clever, vengeful, and very dark man of Montresor.
