In the short story, “The Cask of Amontillado,” by Edgar Allan Poe, the character Montresor uses a bitter tone when recalling the plan he has for seeking revenge on Fortunato for insulting him. The author chose this tone to reveal how people are vengeful, people don’t like to forgive and forget. This short story starts off with Montresor telling us how he wants to seek this great revenge on Fortunato for insulting him. His two ways for making his plan successful is making sure that he does not get caught and to make sure that Fortunato knows it’s him seeking revenge on him.
