A man will go to extremes to lead someone to their death for the act of revenge. The theme of revenge throughout the story onsets with Montresor identifying Fortunato’s weakness to help develop his plan of revenge. The story then leads into Montresor baiting Fortunato to encourage the chance of him wanting to try the Amontillado. Therefore, Montresor’s last action of his plan is using Fortunato’s intense relationship with wine and chaining him to the wall. In the Edgar Allen Poe’s story “The Cask of Amontillado” the theme of revenge is illustrated by the actions of Montresor and setting of the story.
