Edgar Allan Poe delineates how the protagonist character, Montresor, creates the perfect murder throughout his short story, The Cask of Amontillado. For years Fortunato,who is a very respected and prideful wine critic, clashed with Montresor. Their rivalry would irritate and exasperate Montresor from time to time, but he still attempted to simply ignore the injuries caused by Fortunato. It was not until Fortunato completely insulted him, that he felt the need to seek for revenge. Montresor was able to construct his perfect murder by acting with a purpose, by preparing a well devised plan, by revealing himself as the killer to his victim, and by performing the assassination with no consequences.
