When trying to figure out what problem we should tackle for this project, and finding out that four out of the six of us had roommate problems it seemed clear that we tackle one of these problems. Living with a roommate will always have its ups and downs no matter what. I’ve heard of problems from random roommates, best friends who are roommates and even from roommates who just knew each other before they moved in together. The chores that were usually done by your parents are now left up to you and you learn that everyone as their own way of doing things that may differ from you. To start off with by having four people with four different personalities in a house together can be difficult and figuring out who should do what can be stressful. After Howard moved in Josh decided without talking to anyone else to make everyone sign a list of house rules that he’d come up …show more content…

Sounds cliché since this is for a communication studies class paper, but communication is key to solving any problem. You can count on it being awkward and hard to do, but by using the DESC scripting strategy we learned about solving this conflict and any future conflict will be easy for the boys. Although DESC is the most aggressive approached to solving conflict due to the very inappropriate behavior by Josh, I think it would be the most effective and solve the problem fastest. DESC is an abbreviation for Describe the behavior, Express how you feel, Specify what you want the person to do and finally Consequences if the behavior doesn’t

I have been working in a nursing home for a little over a year as a dietary aide and have witnessed many problems within the dietary department. The root cause to all of the problems in the dietary department is bad management from my former manager, Sara. Sara was the dietary manager whose job was to manage the kitchen staff, order food and supplies, and plan out meals and snacks for special events at the nursing home. Bad management existed in the kitchen because Sara gave overtime to her employees like it was candy. The kitchen was understaffed for the past couple of months and so the only way that Sara resolved this issue was to give out overtime.…

Attending Buena Vista University it seems as if everyone plays a sport, the small campus and even smaller student body creates an environment that puts an emphasis on athletics. In my three years attending Buena Vista, I have had two different roommates, both athletes themselves. Living with athletes creates challenges and opportunities that are special to athletes. For a washed up high school athlete getting the chance to live vicariously through some of my best friends at the collegiate level is an experience like non-other. One of the biggest concerns when first heading off to college is will you be able to make friends.…

The two important topics that I believe residents should be educated on when they live in campus housing are: the importance of embracing and respecting diversity as well as the dangers of drug use and alcohol consumption. I believe that each resident should be informed of the importance of embracing and respecting diversity whether it is racial, sex, sexual orientation, or even socioeconomically. I often hear people use homophobic and racist comments either as direct insults or in regular conversation and I feel that such language, which is very inconsiderate, derives not just from hate but ignorance. This topic is important because everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect no matter what.…
