How can a person attain the status of a celebrity without having any real talent to offer? Paris Hilton, for example, is a widely-known celebrity who is famous for nothing other than being famous. Miley Cyrus, on the other hand, may have some talent (although others may argue that fact) but is more famous for her shenanigans on and off the stage than she is for any talent she may embody. These two celebrities are perfect examples of how the media is used and manipulated to garner public attention, while at the same time being shaped by the images the media creates for them. With this type of celebrity, the media anxiously awaits the moment at which they can capture the celebrity 's downfall (Projanski, 6). So what happens after one downfall? If the celebrity wishes to stay in the spotlight, he or she must continually put herself in increasingly questionable situations if she wishes to retain the media 's attention. Such as the case of Miley Cyrus, whose behavior has only gotten increasingly bizarre since her days at Disney.
In the case of Miley Cyrus, the celebrity garnered more and more media attention the more raunchy she became, starting with her performance at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles in October of 2009, where she appeared, 16 at the time, inappropriately dressed and straddling a stripper pole attached to an ice cream car. It is also no stretch of the imagination that celebrities like Miley could potentially have very real and very creative talent in their chosen field. However, Miley has done so much “adult” like in order to shed her childhood image of a Disney pop star that this talent and creativity has been stifled and buried under a very much designed personality and life rather than based upon her
