In Graham Smith’s “The Subway Grate in The Seven Year Itch: ‘The Staging of an Appearance-As-Disappearance,” he claims that “appearance-as-disappearance” refers to "creating a montage of attraction" by the act of revealing a women's undergarments, which in turn elicits eroticism (Smith 213). The act of “appearance-as-disappearance,” varies from cinema to literature, but either way they coerce sexual desire. In other words, “appearance-as-disappearance” means to make women an object of sexual desire by focusing on certain aspects of their body or clothing, which in turn prompts eroticism. In the Chipotle super bowl ad, there is a wave of depressing feelings being portrayed as the ad shows a farmer, who has just started a family, and seems like a nice guy that soon turns into a farmer that begins caging up all of these farm animals and injecting chemicals and other inhumane things into them. Luckily, the farmer comes to a realization towards the end as to what he has done and is able to 'save' the farm animals by undoing all the horrible things he began doing in the beginning. I believe the purpose of this ad is to get its audience to eat at Chipotle or to make their audience remember Chipotle so that when they are hungry, Chipotle is one of the first places they think of. This ads audience is families and people who are opposed…

Elections are vital in maintaining a democratic government, ensuring that the will of the collective people shall be represented by their elected officials. However, under certain forms of government, including that of the United States, individual liberties are protected from governmental legislation. This can create a strange predicament in which the will of the people conflicts with the rights of the individual, thus spurring debate as to which will take precedent. This conflict was the central cause of McDonald v. Chicago, in which laws formed by democratically elected officials were contested on the grounds of civil liberty infringement by individuals in the community. While the McDonald v. Chicago case was being reviewed by the Supreme Court in 2010, the laws in question were implemented approximately 30 years prior.…

The popular fast food chain, McDonald’s, tends to carry a negative connotation to many people, but Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation addresses how fast food has been “a revolutionary force in American life” (3). “Vintage McDonald's,” “New Dad,” “Grandmother and Granddaughter,” “Cha-Cha Slide,” and “Spiderman” are all examples of commercials that McDonald’s uses to show situations that are contradictory to the negative opinions of many. In the commercials McDonald’s wants to show families that they are their “trusted friend” (3). McDonald's accomplishes the “trusted friend” role with the use of ethos, pathos, and logos.…

I never expected working at a fast food restaurant to change my life. When I first applied online, I had a preconceived notion about what my experience at Chipotle would be like. I expected the fast food restaurant to be like any other I had heard about. I would go to work, make food, then go home. In direct contrast, the environment at Chipotle is like nothing I’ve ever experienced, not even in a Christian school.…

Eric Schlosser, the author of Fast Food Nation, used techniques of persuasion through ethos, pathos, and logos and they help him become credible when it comes to uncovering the dark sides of the fast food industry. Schlosser’s audience are the people who eat at fast food establishments and who buy their products without knowing what it takes to serve it. By analyzing the book we can see how the author’s use of rhetoric analysis supports his argument. It not only benefited his purpose, but it also helped the reader understand it and take a stance on his argument. Pathos is an appeal to emotion and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response.…
