The case between Burwell v. Hobby Lobby deals with the Green Family and how they operate their company. The Green family owns and operates Hobby Lobby stores, Inc., a national arts and crafts chain with over 400 stores and over 12,000 employees. The Green family is kind of like Chic-fil-A in the idea that their business is founded on principles of the Christian faith. They have the explicit desire to run the company according to Biblical ideologies. One of the ideas or precepts is that the use of contraceptive is immoral. The Patient protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) says that employment-based group health care plans must provide certain types of preventive care such as FDA-approved contraceptive methods. The Green family has stake in the outcome because it is basically them that have to pay out the tax penalty for not providing the contraceptives to their employees and going against their religion. The employees also have a stake in this ruling because it is them that are trying to force their employer to provide the contraceptive as a part of their health care plan with the company. You could also say that this is a landmark case because they are setting the precedent for employees and companies to come. Whatever happens in this case could have ramification to other Christian-based companies that are trying to impose their religious ideologies on their for-profit …show more content…
I believe that the problem all started because the employees were not told up front about how they conducted their business. They employees were lead to believe that they signed up to work for a company that would adhere by all the health care laws. This includes the idea that if they sign up for a health care plan that they provide that includes the idea of providing contraceptive to the employees. Before the Green family tries to employ anyone else they should present them with information that attests to the fact that they do not believe in providing contraceptive to their employees based on their religious beliefs. If they create a stipulation in their contract that if they are employed by Hobby Lobby Inc., they will not be provided with contraceptive through their health care plan then this will allow both parties to have an understanding of what they are getting
