During the fall of 2012, of my undergraduate year, hardship hit my family. A week before the beginning of my final year as an undergraduate, my little sister went through leg and hip surgery. The surgery was quick, but recovery period lasted over a month. At that time my sister was on strict bed rest, not allowed to go to the restroom or bathe for a month. Not being able to do anything for herself she needed more assistance than she normally would. My older sister had been living with us for some time, but my two sisters had a communication barrier. My mom worked the day-shift, but my dad was around during the day time to help out. When my mom came home she would cook, and was tired herself. After her legs and hip surgery I would readjust her braces and check her dressings daily to make sure everything was good. No one in my family was comfortable doing this, but not me. I saw this as an opportunity to learn. My sister does not have full sensation below her hip, so it was up to me to see if there were any infections or bruises from the braces. I gained my sister’s trust to the point that she would not let anyone touch her, unless it was me. The fall of 2012 opened my eyes and revived my passion for medicine that I had buried deep inside me. Since that day my desire to enter the medical profession has not faded away. It has grown stronger and I am more determined then ever that will become a Physician Assistant. My aspiration to enter the medical profession stems from my past and present. My experiences has allowed to learn that there will be times when nothing will seem right, but all I have to do is not lose faith in myself and I can overcome and hurdles. I want to become Physician Assistant and I will not give up until I earn this
