I am majoring in biology, because biology mostly fits my sense in what I want to do and I can perform well in biology. Science is my favorite subject. Biology degree includes a prerequisite courses for Optometry school and provides the training that I need to be successful in Optometry school. The course work for Optometry in biology covers the knowledge of cellular processes, which will help Optometrists use and understand the changes that may occur in the eyes. Another way a biology degree provides in the course work in genetics, which helps Optometrists to understand the hereditary factors that may contribute to vision problems in their clients.
Many of the optometrists own and operate their own practices. It is important for Optometrists to have good business, accounting and managerial skills. Being able to multitask, delegate and communicate effectively is critical for having a successful career as an optometrist.
