I have now been exposed to working with people with mental, physical, and developmental disabilities as well as substance abuse problems. Having the experience of being in the field as a social worker has brought me much more confidence and knowledge. I trust that the knowledge I have gained while being in the field will greatly benefit me in having a successful experience in the master’s program.
Working at HHCLA has taught me an aspect in life that can be very beneficial to know as a professional. HHCLA taught me the concept of Harm Reduction and meeting individuals where they are at. We as social workers don’t necessarily need to have the fix to everyone’s problems, however we can help our clients reduce the harm that might be causing their problems. In using harm reduction we meet people where they are at with their problem and move on from there.
