Mary Ann Sena-Edelen is the epitome of what we all want to be. She’s sweet, caring, bubbly, and smart while being a strong leader. She has worked her way up the MGM Resorts International career ladder with pure dedication and is now the Director of Guest Experience. She came to Las Vegas in 1989 for her twenty-first birthday, and loved it so much she stayed. It was the best career and life move she ever made. When she moved here, she worked at Harrah’s and watched the big green building, MGM Grand, be constructed every day leaving work. She knew she would work there some day. Organization and timeliness need to be a key part to your daily routine. Having a calendar, staying ahead of deadlines, and not using excusing for any reason will set you on the right path to getting all your work done. School is always first; your social life is second. Mary said the biggest problem within the MGM Corporation is the younger generations lack of organization. Too many young adults are lackadaisical about their work duties. Having integrity proves to others what type of person you are. Do the right thing, always. Keep all of the commitments you make. Always hold yourself accountable for your decisions, and never sacrifice your values. Do what you know is right in your heart. When taking on new commitments, just ask yourself what is the worst thing that can happen, and ask if you are capable to handle it if it does occur. Keep your eyes on the prize and always remain focused. Figure out what you want for yourself. Saturate your mind, heart, and soul with the things that will help you to achieve your goals. Don’t let the people in your life get in your way of success. Build supportive relationships with people around you. Friends that are in college and going through the same classes as you’re taking are great because they know the time you have to dedicate to school. If you don’t try, you can’t expect your goals to be reached. Success isn’t a natural part of life, it is earned. Filling the gap of where you are and where you want to be will only happen if you try your hardest. There’s always people in the world that get handed things, but don’t become that person. In my current job, I went through a rigorous interview process where I met with some of the top dogs of the city. It was one of the scariest two weeks of my life. I had constant anxiety and felt constant pressure. It was intimidating and scary, but I wanted it so badly. Many of my coworkers got the job because they knew the manager. It required no effort for them. Now that they have it, they’re done trying. None of them want to advance. Don’t get comfortable in your situation. There’s always room for improvement. Interviewing and starting new jobs are always very intimidating and nerve racking. But you need to let life happen. Always push yourself to get farther. You can never be too
