Personal Narrative: Growing Up In A Car

People say that there is nothing like the smell and the feel of a brand new car. Lucky for me at the age of nineteen I was fortunate enough to find that out for myself. After working to save seventeen hundred dollars my mom and I drove to the Honda dealer to go get the car of my dreams. There it was, either it seemed like they knew I was coming, or everywhere I looked the car was there. A black on black coupe EX Honda Civic, power locks, power windows, sunroof, alloy wheels, and the best part was that it was a stick shift. Sitting inside the car for the very first time was a feeling that I will never forget. I know that most cars come standard with those features, but back in 2004 that car was my dream come true, specially after watching The …show more content…
Interacting with people from all over the world, having white sandy beaches minutes from your house, school trips all over the state and a huge cultural diversity everywhere you looked. At the same time it was a really tough experience, one that I won’t forget. Like they say in Miami “ you either swim or sink”. Life can be very challenging to a single mom in a big expensive city. I helped her as much as I could by taking care of my two younger brothers and trying not to get into too much trouble, which at points it was hard with temptations in every corner. Every car we had growing up was one bad experience after another, from bad AC’s to opening the trunk with a screwdriver. My worst experience with one of my mom’s car was when I got invited to a party, and on the way there the car completely stopped working and instead of being concern about her and the car I was more concern about missing the party, because we all know that for a teenager missing a party with your friends it’s an awful, life changing, catastrophic …show more content…
He replied “Sure, be here next Monday at 6:00pm, you are my new Manager”. Monday night came I showed up at 6:00 o’clock sharp and we went over what he expected and told me he would stay with me all night because it was my first day. Twenty minutes later, he banished and told me that I would be ok on my own. I had no other choice, but to start my shift. After about half an hour of “running the store” I realize that once again, as when I was a server, I was the worst manager there, but slow and steady I became better. I started making a little bit more money, stated helping more with the house bills, and started saving for my brand new car. Finally the day came when I had enough money to go to the dealer and ask for the car I wanted. I was really proud of my accomplishments, and I showed it by driving as fast as I could everywhere I went. The city of Mobile loved me because I must have paid over a thousand dollars in tickets alone for going faster than I should have. Like I said after watching the “Fast and the Furious” I thought I was one of the characters specially after actually seeing the same car I was driving used for the movie, even though mine only had 137 horsepower about half as fast as the ones in the

On a beautiful clear morning of February the 19th, my mom picked me up from my class at the University of West Georgia, then we went to Waffle House to have a nice breakfast. We left from Waffle House, proceeding down Maple Street, and turned onto South Street and immediately onto Kenner Street. We then turned onto on the merging lane on South Park Street (US Hwy 27) heading south, we immediately halted to a full stop as vehicles moved from the middle lane into the merging lane in front of us, but at that time there were no vehicles behind us. As we waited to enter traffic, a car suddenly struck us from behind which caused the car to jerk violently forward, causing my mother’s chest to hit the steering wheel, and our heads and bodies to whip forward and then back.…

It was my first auto and I worked so hard for it. I checked out a few dealerships, avenues and parking areas for an auto that popped out at me and was in my value range. I was searching for stick shift autos on the grounds that every one of my companions had one and since I need to be a workman I thought it would be an essential aptitude to know. I was taking a gander at 2011 Nissan Maxima which was a truly lovely auto yet it was out of my value extent…

After five hours under Mrs. Gonzalez’s 1997 Plymouth, my hands were so dirty I had to wash them ten times just to see my fingernails again. She was a familiar face around the shop, given that neighborhood thieves had routinely targeted her car. This time, though, they had gone too far. Someone had crawled underneath the car and cut out the valuable catalytic converter, and she couldn’t afford a replacement. When I looked at her and said, “That’ll be $563,” her face turned pale.…

At 6 a.m. every morning, the deafening tone of my alarm would signal the beginning of a new day. My morning routine sticks to the same monotonous schedule: a shower, getting dressed, a small breakfast, and a short drive to school. Most mornings, that five minute drive is nothing more than a mundane fraction of my day. But what I never consider is what these five minutes represent, which is the independence that I worked so hard for. If you ask anybody about their first car, you will only hear countless stories and fond memories, no matter how old or rusty their car was.…

My first car was something that I greatly was looking forward to getting as a child and my interest in getting one grew, as the days got closer to my sixteenth birthday. The first car I owned was a Automatic Black 2004 Ford f-150 truck, which I discovered on a website called Craigslist. It was priced at five thousand nine hundred dollars with only eighty-four thousand miles on it, which in my case was great considering that I could only afford a seven thousand dollar car. The truck came with all manual locks and windows and also had a small amount of hail damage that could really only be seen at a certain angle. But even with reasonable price on the truck I still attempted to negotiate for an even lower price to further my luck.…
